Over 1200 tickets in just 30 days.
The red light and speed cameras in Cedar Rapids have been busy and another camera is going active this weekend.

The camera at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and 10th Street SE has seen the most speeders and red light runners in the 30 days; 150 speeders, 108 red light violations at that location alone.

Police have issued 957 speeding tickets and 277 red light violation tickets through the 4 stationary cameras and the 1 mobile speed camera.

“Very, very surprising, I cannot believe that there are that many people running red lights ....or those getting caught,” says on driver.

Police have issued more than 1200 tickets in all...in just 30 days.

Before the cameras went up, CBS 2 timed the yellow lights.
CBS 2 went back to that intersection today to test the timing after the cameras; both tests were at 3 seconds.

The timing is not changing but the cameras are changing some driver’s behaviors.

“I do think about it, when I get to a light and its red or yellow and it's turning, I think about it,” says one driver.

The next camera to go active will be at the intersection of Edgewood Road and 42 St. NE; it will go live at midnight on Saturday and start recording speeders and red light runners on Sunday.
